If you are having trouble starting tasmgr.exe, regedit etc. because security tool intercepts it stating that it contains whatever virus (hoax message) reboot your PC and press F8 to select booting windows in safe mode with command prompt; If you have the choice to choose the Administrator user on your PC, please do.

Once in the command prompt, you can change directories like this:
cd \documents and settings\All users\application data\

at this prompt do a dir command to see what number the virus folder has.
than perform cd (number)
In that directory perform del *.exe to remove the executable of the virus.
Regedit at the prompt will start regedit, allowing you now to remove the higher registry keys as well.
Reboot after that, the virus will not be active anymore and now install a good spyware software to keep your PC clean.

The strategy is not bad, but you can cancel some useful processes this way. Look at the manual removal guide, instead of killing random processes.

Hi Dale,

I had the exact same problem: I couldn't execute applications, so I couldn't remove the virus. However I still managed to get rid of the virus. Here is what I did:
After booting it takes some time for the virus to load. During this brief time, 20-30 seconds at most, you can open up the task magager. I started quitting random processes, and probably managed to hit the process that handles starting applications when Windows loads, so the virus didn't load. Then I could open up my filemanager from the task manager and I was ready to remove the virus files from the computer.
I hope this helps.

Infected with the System Security virus/trojan. I cannot boot into safemode, it will go
into a blue screen dump. Like others, I cannot run any programs, ie. taskmgr, notepad,
etc. Tried to install the removal tools on a pen drive, but cannot run them. So how can I edit the files listed in your instructions to stop the System Security
programs?

Thanks,
Dale
