I am trying to remove this from my parents pc but it is stopping me accessing the internet to download the appropriate spyware killer to remove it. Any ideas?

I have this same problem, also two days after that virus, I downloaded a spyware killer, it worked on that night, but the next day, it doesnt work already, i tried uninstalling and redownloading but it doesnt work already( I think it doesnt work after you shut down and re-open it

I also ran across this bug in a laptop of a friend of mine. I tried to follow the steps but it blocked my task manager. I stopped all programs on startup then looked to remove files as instructed. I also removed registry keys as instructed.

My task manager still won’t start up. My antivirus that I had will not load in windows now … it appears to have corrupted my OS … I don’t see how anyone can remove this thing without lingering issues unless they reinstall windows. Just my opinion.

Infected w/ PC Defender. Installed Spyware Doctor, but wouldn’t run. Loaded into Safe mode, spyware doctor still doesn’t run, no error message. Any ideas? I already had spybot S&D loaded so am trying that in safe mode instead… it couldn’t clean the malware in real mode. Any info would help.

You should be able to run security tools in a safe mode. If that won’t help, use the manual removal guide to delete WinPC Defender.

I cant open programs like spywre doctor, Avira AntiVir Control Center, or EVEN TASK MANAGER……. What should I do to solve this problem?

My LT was infected last week with this WPCD and I must admit it destoyed my LT funcionality. It gave me no chance to uninstall it nor manualy neither using some antivirus or removal program.

At the end I managed to save all documents on a DVD and re-instal the whole OS and Office to get clean LT.

Thats it.

You do not have to be surfing porn to get this nasty bug. My anti-spyware stopped it in its tracks, but I was getting it from a website for mirrored closet doors.

I think the Yellow Pages might be a good idea whose time has come again. Or maybe an iMac.

Blocking the websites is not the main part of WinPc Defender removal. Make sure you delete all the malicious files and registry entries.

I strongly recommend running anti-spyware scan to make sure there are no threats left behind. If you don't use anti-spyware, you can still check your computer manually. Search your PC for the files and registries described on the manual removal

i also got stuck with winpcdefender….

iam using symantec endpoint protection and regularly updates it but it was unable to detect this virus

i somehow managed to remove it…
what i did was that i stopped the process from task manager and subsequently deleted the winpcdefender file….since then i received no pop ups…am i safe now??

The scan shouldn’t normally take this long. Have you tried running a scan in a safe mode?

Hi,

I have downloaded Spyware Doctor to try and remove this winpc antivirus as I am not confortable manually removing it, however the spyware doctor scan is taking forever. So far after at least 1 1/2 hours its progress is only 9% is it possible that the winpc is blocking the scan in anyway or is this normal for the first scan to take so long?

You computer might be slow because of the WinPC Defender infection. I recommend updating Spyware Doctor and running the scan again. Running the scan in a safe mode should also be more effective.

WinPC Defender is not on the “Add/Remove programs” list because Win PC Defender is not a regular program. It is a computer infection. AVG can’t deal with this cos it only removes viruses and WinPCDefender is different type of infection. You need antispyware to detect and remove this malware. You can also remove the infection manually; manual removal tutorial is provided above the comments sections of this page.

I seem to have acquired this virus/bug via Myspace.
I’m currently using AVG virus protection. My AVG popped up saying that I have this “winPC”, but gave me no option to remove. I tried to “Add/Remove Programs” but it didn’t show winPC in my files. winPC keeps popping up every couple webpages I go on which is annoying!
Any suggestions for removal?!

Make sure to keep your security tools updated, otherwise they are useless. You shouldn’t blame your anti-spyware. There is no program which could detect and delete 100% of malwares.

Hi – thanks for the good advice. I have managed to remove all traces of this thing (and may the fleas of a thousand infest the personsthat created it).

However it seems to have changed or done something with the network settings. I can no longer access my ethernet network by cable, and also the USB internet access reports a network setting error and will not operate.

Has anyone had simlar experiences, and know a wayto correct it?

I haven’t been back since I got my problem fixed but I continue to stay in touch with the posting and thought I’d add my 2 cents…I did a recovery on my system and that was it…done!! That is a nasty thing that PC defender and I got it from a site offering free music…can’t remember the exact name, but I couldn’t believe the impossible nature of the trojan…I believe that’s what it is?? Anyway…I’d just re-install windows and be done with it. Save anything on cd’s you don’t want to lose and go for it…obviously you will have to re-install all anti-virus, printers, webcams, windows updates (this can be a long process if your computer is old like mine) but it’s free and easy…good luck

I have Verizon Security Suite, Adaware, and Spybot and I still got this and can’t remove it everything freezes up and I can no longer get on the internet. I’m praying that I can get the computer to function enough to use these instructions to remove this horrible bug!!!

Registry entries might be different on different computers. Make sure you remove all the malicious files you can locate. You can also use anti-spyware to do all the job for you.

You can also download some free anti-spyware on another computer and transfer the install to the infected pc using USB key.

I recommend booting your pc in a safe mode and going through the manual removal once again.
