Hello Dave,
Spywarevoid.com doesn't distribute Windows Protection Suite and it is not related with the malware in any way. I'm afraid you won't get the refund from creators of this scam, because there's no real company behind this. Call the local authorities of your bank and explain them what happened, they might be still able to cancel the payment. If you still got Windows Protection Suite on your PC, use the manual removal guidelines posted above the comments section.

Found the issue with taskmgr and any spybot/adaware/AV software not running.....

Regedit for key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options. Browse for any stuff that is not working. (The key path may not be 100% correct, but the last bit is 'Image File Execution Options'. This allows to attach a debugger to a program to trouble shoot by redirecting the execution to a 'debugger' before the process starts.). I found my Taskmgr.ext being redirected to svchost.exe. This would cause it not to launch at all. EXPORT YOUR KEYS BEFORE DOING THE FOLLOWING!!!! Remove the key then test to see if it works. If it does not work, import (or merge) the key back to the registry!

I removed the taskmgr key from the Image File Execution Options (which pointed taskmgr to svchost.exe) and task manager came up with no issues!

The removal tool is effective but you can also delete the infection manually. Use the tutorial given above the comments section.

Restart your computer and boot into a safe mode. You should be able to access Task Manager and to run anti-spyware tools.

My wife just attracted this trojan (sigh) and I have been able to remove it with good success. However, I know get a couple crash warnings on boot for WId6e9.exe and task manager refuses to open using any method. I'm stuck now.

TWIMC: 12 Aug 09
The current version of the Fake Windows Scurity Center virus is capturing and killing key strokes to taskmgr
and kills cmd and taskmgr calls from the run prompt. It appears to have disabled the ability to enter
safe mode as well. It also appears to kill any virus/adware/malware scubber programs. So put on your thinking caps
and see if you can come up with work arounds to rid with these contraints.

BTW, this version seems quite recently introduced (like the last week of July 09).
