I’ve read all these post and my main issue with most of them is people are saying download this program that program. Well if the problem is .exe files, those are pretty much programs. Hence, fixing “program” problems with a “program” doesn’t make sense. That program you are saying to download is an .exe also so it won’t work. Just my insite.

It wont let me run regedit or anything… i tryed running almost all the antivirus programs this site has told me to try to get rid of windows police pro…

So I think I caught it right when it downloaded, and it seems like I was able to kill it.
I think everything is working right, except for it’s done something to my add/remove programs, making it so it won’t open. Everything else in control panel works but that. There’s no error message or anything, it just won’t do anything when I click it. Help???

Definitely agree with Amber! I too was hopeless. Couldn’t run any programs and I was beginning to think it would be worse and worse. I started up safe mode, but I couldnt even run Firefox to instal the exefix_file. So I started off deleting all the files associated with this virus listed above. Then I deleted all the temp files as well. After that, I was miraculously able to start up fire fox so that I could download the exefix_file. I installed that. Then I was able to do my system restore! It finally worked I could have just deleted the registry files and it would work the same, but I just wanted to play it safe and make sure it was all gone so I did the system restore. Folks….I owe you! Went to regedit…went to “find” typed in Windows Police Pro….many (I mean MANY) things had to be removed….but I think I got them all. And in the “search files”…it took me awhile to get them deleted because the damn program kept popping back open…but was able to “end processes” after doing the ole “control-alt-delete”…and then quickly deleted and emptied the trash…whew….Had to do that for each found WPP file but it finally worked.

Thanks to all who commented and thank you for the heads up in the future…this WPP was a real doozy!

I am hoping someone can help. I was able, I think to delete the Police Pro on my 10 year old daughter’s computer, who knows how she got this virus, from safe mode, but now I cannot get online at all & cannot open or run any program on her computer. I had previously installed Malwarebytes, but again I cannot open it? Prior to deleting the Police Pro software, at least I was able to get online before being redirected. Anything we click on, quickly opens then closes a black box, I quicly see win 32 etc. in the box closes to quick to see exact. Any help would be greatly appreciated as she need her computer for school & I travel with my laptop. Have a good night!

Just use firefox if you’re still able to download it. Sorry Gmail users. Gmail only seems to work on IE7 or greater. I did reg edits and folder deletions only to find it coming back SPECIFICALLY when using IE7 or greater. Later checked for infections then reg to find nothing. Now when I attempt to use IE I get a warning but I always CNTRL,ALT, DEL IE before anything happens. Then I’m back to FireFox. I’m correlating this to the use of Utorrent since downloaded torrents are not free of viruses, this can happen. My advice is to stop stealing software because it will catch up to you. Think about it. Anyway my friends computer is only useful thanks to firefox since IE is corrupted. I even tried completely uninstalling IE and it still comes back. NOTE to advanced users: I did notice that there is a record of past icons after reg edits and antispyware rems in the hide/show when active/always show selection for the taskbar in XP. Maybe the virus resides in wherever the icon for windows police pro exists (perhaps a location without title identification) since that’s the only inkling of a trace of the malware still visually existing after all the reg edits and folder rems are. I don’t know how one would search for icons in a manner of leading to it’s remaining folder that leads to the horrible windows police shield image.

Windows Police Pro is able to block most of security tools. Have you tried installing the program in a safe mode? If that doesn’t work out, the manual removal might be your only option.

I can not find any registry entries at the above mentioned locations, how do i go about finding them or are there not any? I have managed to delete the wpp.exe but not the folder, which has temporarily disabled this monster. i am apprehensive to reboot into safe mode. I was fortunate to catch this the first time it ran and have able to run programs without to much problem.
If i reboot will it reinstall and make my problem worse??

Okay I downloaded That PC Tools Spyware Doctor. But it says I need to get a registration key to delete the infections!!!! I can’t go outside at this time to get that key, I need it now before Window’s police pro takes over my laptop! Help!!

For those who don’t know what a batch file is, it’s just a text file with dos commands in it with an extension BAT. So to run the install, you create a text file called runme.bat then edit it in notepad and put in something like:

f:\malwarebytes_setup.exe

where f is the drive letter of the thumb drive.

Then double click your BAT file and it will run.

Yes – I have tried everything here and other sites – nothing has worked – I can’t even take HD back to factory settings – it blocks me from doing that by saying the Admin is blocking me – I am the admin and have no passwords and have not blocked anything. The virus no longer shows up on screen but when windows loads all I have is my wallpaper. Can’t access anything in normal mode – only the task mgr in safe mode and it limits what I can do with the same “Locked by admin” error message!!!
1. This thing WILL NOT let you do anything is Safe Mode so any reference to starting and running things in Safe Mode are moot – or at least for most of the posts I have seen.
2. It won’t let you run .exe files – even if you rename – it changes them back or gives an error message – see posts above.
3. IT IS EVERYWHERE and is blocking me and others judging by the posts here and other sites from deleting it or running MalwareBytes or any antivirus software or removing it.
I KNOW there are people 100 times smarter than the jerk(s) who created this monster. PLEASE HELP US!

If you’re getting:

“windows cannot access the specified device”

Create a batch file (runme.bat) with DOS commands in it to launch programs. This will circumvent the virus and allow you to install anti-malware and run regedit and the like.

The version of this $((%(($ virus I have won’t let me run in safe mode no task bar tried EVERYTHING suggested on here and it is locked down tight! Reboot your PC in a safe mode. Windows Police Pro files shouldn’t be loaded in safe mode and you should be able to delete them.

Ok, on the last part, I managed to find the file WP pro is, but when I try deleting it I get this error message stating:
“Cannot delete windows Police Pro: Access is Denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use”

I have two Users accounts on my computer, will that affect it at all?
and if not, how do I go about deleting it without being denied like this?

I’m helping somebody over the phone try to resolve this issue. In your response you stated using the program called exefix_xp.com that will reregister the file type and allow execution again. Should I have my friend enter this into RUN?

I also had lost some windows programs, just gone, even the links fom start menu. Paint, sondvol, wordpad, few windows games etc. I ‘expanded ‘ them from compressed files directory or you can from windows cd if you have it. instructions I got from windows site-simple command line statement from cmd window- less someone here knows the syntax.

I notice over a couple of days programs were disapperaing? paint, calualtor then wordpad etc. before all heck broke loose

Windows Police Pro is able to block some security programs in a normal mode, but you should be able to run the scan in safe mode.

Delete the file in a safe mode. Most of malicious processes are not loaded in safe mode so you should be able to deal with the infection.

Ok, i got Windows Police Pro off my computer, but i am having some trouble opening up certain files on my computer, such as Windows Media Player or the Properties for My Computer. Is it possible that when WPP got onto my computer that another program did as well, and if so, is it possible that someone might know the programs .exe name.

svchast.exe was also added to the task list, which i promptly removed once i got WPP off. but this did not fix my problem… Need a solution.

This thing is really annoying. I opened task manager to end the process but it kept coming back in the toolbar on the bottom right. I went into safe mode and searched for the files to delete it. Had to reinstall Malwarebyte’s Anti Malware in safe mode to get it to work. Right now scanning.

How to remove Windows Police Pro Virus Registry entries

Press Start + R, type “regedit” and press enter. Find the “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Windows Police Pro
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Windows Police Pro” key and delete it. Be careful not to delete other keys.

What if I cannot get the command regedit to take? I hit ok, it looks like it is going to go to this and then closes out the task manager. I have done it in both safe mode and regular mode. Is there another way to get to this?

Success! Complete and total. For me the key was downloading and running exefix_xp.com. I did get to the registry editor by going to start/run/cmd. I found only two entries with Police Pro but who knows what they were doing. After running the .exefix I was alble to run the Malware/Spyware software which removed Police Pro hopefully forever. I tried downloading malaware anti virus program and the exefit_file. They work up till one pt. When i press the scan button it scans for like 3 or 4 seconds and the program just disappears. Plus now whenever i turn my comp on the desktop icons dont even show up anymore so i have to use window task manager to get through….. any advice?

Hello Again, I forgot to add that Police Pro won’t allow any on-line scanners to run as well. I was able to access the registry via the command prompt but I found only “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Windows Police PRO” and removed it. I’m about to reboot into safe mode again but I don’t have high hopes as this bugger is way smart.

There seems to be a new variant of Windows Police Pro that blocks all attempts to run .exe or registry editing. Each attempt to run a .exe file defaults to a Windows Like “Open With” dialogue box. I have tried Safe Mode, I have tried searching for Police files and deleting. So far nothing works. It’s very smart. The only route to Internet Explorer is to click on the Web search in the phony Open With box. Any ideas. Thanks. Jeff

None of these suggestions seem to work for me. If I try to run regedit, I’m asked what program I want to use to run it, I can’t launch hijack this, malaware runs for just 7 seconds, then exits, registry mechanic becomes non-responsive….I’ve tried everything in regular mode AND safe mode. Now my internet connection is super slow.

Now I’m not getting the “error” messages that i assume the virus was causing and instead I’m now getting the errors that you are describing. Has anyone found an answer to this issue?

If you can open Malwarebytes Antivirus, go to the Tools tab, and there is a program called “Fileshredder” or something. First, right click on your start menu and click search. Search for both Windows Police Pro, and any fake antivirus stuff by searching “Antivirus” (I had one called Pro Antivirus Remover or something on my desktop. Each time you find the folder, use it’s folder path to browse in the Fileshredder program and select it. This will allow you remove the programs & files. Most are in the Startup folder, or Administrator programs folder.There are also related programs called desote.exe, and dddslr.exe or something.

If you cannot open Malware goto the folder it’s saved in, and find it’s startup icon in there. Right click it & select run. I still recv’d 3 error messeges, but it still opened anyway.

This virus is nasty.

Been reading all of the posts by people and I appreciate that everyone is so willing to help out. I have been able to get my .exes working and have been able to install anti spyware software. The problem is that when I try and run Malwarebyte’s AntiMalware, it starts scanning, then suddenly exits. Then when I try and run it again, I get the message. “Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.” I am currently trying to run them as the administrator in safe mode. Any idea what I can do?

Everyone that has deleted and done everything possible please i strongly recomend doing what Bill in reply ten has said .. Thanks bill u saved my homework.. Go to google and browse exefit_file thing and download it and it will find what is making the error with ur programs. i used it and could unistall the police pro and everything so please do it for those that think there is no hope and thanks again bill and everyone ^.^

I have an added problem. This thing has me completely locked down. I boot up in Safe Mode and I can’t even run Malwarebytes. Any icon I click on flashes a dos box and the is a message that I can’t read completely, but it says something about the program is too large to run. I can’t get into regedit or msconfig to delete anything. What can I do?
