When the laptop freezes, the cursor freezed as well and wasn’t able to do anything. I used a mouse for speed reasons and after turning the laptop on safe mode, I quickly started spybot search&destroy. Please do NOT forget to clean out your recycle icon once you cleaned out all of totalpcdefender files.

I GOT THIS THING , REFUSE TO CALL IT’S NAME, I FRIST DOWNLOADED AVG9.0, WHICH SCANED AND SHOWED ALL VIRUS, THEN GO TO VAULT AND CLICK EMPTY / REMOVE, WENT TO ADD /REMOVE PROGRAM. AND DELATED ANY THING NAME OR TAGGED TOTAL PC …….. AND ALL STRANGE NAMED VIRUS REMOVER.
STILL SOME REMAINING POP-UP’S, THEN I READ IN ONE OF THESE FROUM , ANY TRYED THIS… BEFORE YOU PC OPENS ANY PROG. AT START UP, PRESS CLRT.+ ALT+DELATE, TASK MASTER COMES UP, HIGHLIGHT TOTAL PC & ANY OTHERS, AND CLICK END TASK.
I HAD TO DO THIS ON FOUR DAYS , AND THEN ALL PC DEFENDER AND ASS. STOP COMPLETE, IT IS NOW SEVEN DAY’S THAT I HAVE NO PC DEFENDER POP-UP’S. AND MY PC IS STARTING UP FASTER, I CAN NOW USE IT FOR LONG HOUR’S. GIVE IT A SHOT

I can not start in safe mode ctrl+alt+dlt prompt comes up to log in, I do that it says logging on, then it logs right back off.

ok so i have tried all options adn now it has control of my safe mode …add/remove does nothing but open the total pc defender.
everything i have done to get around (IE. ctrl atl delete) or add remove it has disabled those options wither im in safe mode or not it is now at the point where i cant use my keyboard DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS PLS AND TY

Ipressed Control-Alt- Delete and searched for the PC Defender task and stopped that. Thanks to my Microsoft keyboard Elite for Bluetooth, I pressed “My Documents” and my computer icons and task bar showed up. I immediately searched for “all files” for PC Defender and deleted all of them and emptied my Recycle Bin. I also searched for HKEY and it knew it was PC Defender which there was none. So far so good. I do play on line games from time to time and not from many different sites but I do know that is how I got this big bad thorn in my computer. My next step is to purchase some of my favorite games and not play on line anymore. Hope this can help someone else with this unpleasant surprise.

I had total pc defender on my laptop. Got in safe mode used windows defenders software explorer as well as the programs and features to disable the program temporarily. double checked through my computer and deleted it from start menu. I was able to start windows normally, still some glitches though, so used ccleaner, and ntregopt for the heck of it. double checked using the manual method on this page blocking the sites and it appears to be taken care of

I thing you have to simply load eveything into a chip (not the scam) ang deleate eveything. Then you can just load the information in.

I started my computer in safe mode. Went to the control panel and deleted Total PC Defender. Went to Programs and deleted the file there also. Restarted my computer, went on the internet, downloaded Spyware Doctor. Ran it, and no more problems. Hope this helps you too!

Hey Folks – these PC Defender 2010 folks keep upping the ante and adapting

The version I have has Disabled Task Manager, and will not allow start up in safe mode with or without networking (I’ll try command prompt when I get home and see if it will let me delete the PC Defender Program files to get a leg up)

When attempting to go in via Safe Mode it just disregards that and starts up as normal

Once the computer starts up PC Defender 2010 runs and doesn’t allow anything else to run nor any access to anything

I was able to get McAfee running before the PC Defender started up and they were running concurrently but the McAfee scan said it didn’t find anything – so this isn’t on their radar screen or the program disabled McAfee. I can’t get Malwarebytes to run.

If this doesn’t work the only thing I can think of is to take out the Hard Drive – put it in an external enclosure, plug it in as an external hard drive and clean it with malwarebytes and other programs – which I’m thinking should work since the Operating System is where this is contained (that’s always the problem – that these things infect the operating system and you can’t clean the OS when it’s running).

Seeing as they are trying to dupe people into paying money, I don’t understand why the authorities don’t track back who is getting the money and take action (though I know this is an out of country attack in all likelihood.)

To anybody having trouble with loss of task bar:

Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up Task Manager once Total PC Defender is running. End the Total PC Defender task. Once this is done, press the New Task button at the bottom of the task manager while under the applications tab and type the following:

explorer.exe

That should bring back your task bar and desktop so that you can continue with the other steps.

I was able to use start to get to restore point before it froze everything out then used control alt delete to use switch to to use restore point to get it out

For anyone having trouble even starting these steps above because the program takes over their pc as soon as they boot….

Here’s how I got rid of it on my kids XP machine (twice now… he keeps going out to these sites looking for cheat codes for his nintendo ds games… and that’s where he is picking up this wretched virus… this has at least been a good lesson for him, but I’m rambling….)

step 1: reboot (hold your power button on your pc if you have to) and as soon as your machine starts booting, hit F8 a few times (before the Windows loading screen shows up). You’ll come to a screen that says ‘Please select an option:’ From here use your arrow keys on the keyboard to pick ‘Safe Mode with Command Prompt’

step 2: it takes a while but you’ll eventually be looking at a command prompt. Type this in exactly as shown and press enter: del “C:\Program Files\Total PC Defender*.*” It will ask you if you’re sure, type a ‘Y’ and press enter.
This will delete teh actual program causing the problem. Afterwards type ‘exit’ and press enter.

step 3: after step 3 it looks like my machine is attempting to boot up to safe mode, but it freezes so I just hold in the power button which forces the PC to restart.

step 4: we’re rebooting again, and we’re going to hit F8 again, but this time we’re going to select ‘Safe Mod’ (not the ‘Safe Mode with Networking’ option… b/c if this thing has mechanisms built it to download itself if it’s missing, we don’t want it to be able to see the internet)

step 5: once we boot up into safe mode, we can now follow the steps outlined above on this webpage, including adding those sites to the hosts file, reenabling task manager etc in the registry (be careful!), and deleting any remnants of the program such as shortcuts, etc.

I noticed in my hosts file that TONS of websites such as google, yahoo, etc were all being redirected to some mysterious IP address. I deleted every one of those (about 80 freaking entries in total) because there’s no reason for that. I suspect Total PC Defender, or some other malware put those entries in there. Have they been tracking all my google searches? Those dirty B@$7@Rdz

this virus has destroyed access into my opening of business computers. At the end of the screens site it has an email address if you have concerns.

This is a bogus attempt to gather additional information from you, especially after you have already entered your name, credit card info, etc.
If I ever find out who these idiots are, there will be blood……..

I got it off my computer by trying to beat the program coming up and getting ca antispyware to come up. It come up after the program came up but poped on top of it so I was able to do the spyware scan and get rid of it.

The computer is came on does not have enough memory to take it to last restore point.. believe me I thought of it.

I was just attacked with this program. At first it just popped up then it got worse until it finally took over. But this is what I did and it didn’t cost me a dime. I turned my computer off and continually hit f8 to bring up the safe mode. I had to do the install from last restore point or something like that.. once I got there it gave me some time. I then was able to go onto my internet and download the malwarebyte.org download. It cleaned my files up with the quick scan then I went back and did the full scan. If you just use the uninstall it will come back. You have to get to the malware and get all the hidden files deleted. Again this shut my whole computer down and wouldn’t let me open it in the safe mode anymore. So this is the way that i got through it. There were over 500 of my files infected with this virus. Hope this helps…

I did all the steps above, i download Malwarebytes and Spyware doctor, I think the program is gone.. except, I cant run the Malwarebytes setup.. I tried restarting, safe mode.. I don’t know what else to do.. and my mousepad on my laptop doesn’t work..

I am trying to remove total pc defender. Have tried to get into “accessories”, to go to system restore; it won’t let me stay in “Programs” long enough to take that step! Have also tried F2, to get to safe mode and remove it from there…no luck! Any ideas? I have printed out the instructions to download the removal program (including rkill), but can’t GET IN! Help! I don’t want to have to spend $130-$150 to get this fixed, if I can avoid it!

look in order to stop it for a time you got to open broswer before the thing pops up once you do that the screen goes black but you can still acess start menu then go to control panel and uninstall it but it will download again sometime so then just run a scan for total pc and delete files and follow the steps they have and to make everything eiser get spyware doctor

Total PC Defender prevents access to my desktop! I get a brief loading of desktop followed by blue screen and Total PC Defender splash. Safe mode did not work either, so installing a removal software is not an option. Please Help!!

This means that either the infection caused some changes you need to restore manually or you have other malware running on your computer. Run anti-spyware to make sure no infections are left onboard.
