You can download antispyware programs on another computer an then transfer the installation files to compromised PC via USB key or CD.

I tried running the sdsetup.exe from a flash drive on the infected computer, and Spyware Protection said it was infected with the Blastworm virus, so it failed to run. I also can’t run anything like task manager, cmd.exe or regedit. Any suggestions?

Well, time for one more trick: have you tried running it in a safe mode?

So to anyone who did panic and bought this software, CALL YOUR BANK IMMEDIATELY! These charges show up as “duxband-swcs.com +18003732161” and can be disputed! After I called my bank I called Spyware Protection 2010 customer service line (1-800-33 8-4926) and told them I needed to be refund immediately. The guy asked for my order # (which was emailed to me) and proceeded to sell me on this product no matter what I said, for the next 10 min. I then told him my bank has been notified to stop the charges and I have cancelled my credit card and he finally agreed to refund me, supposedly. Hope this helps, now to just get this crap off my computer!

I just got scammed by this so called company today. and after paying the 60 bucks and my computer magically being fine right after I decided to Google the product. stumbled upon this website and really glad I did! After realizing I was scammed out of 60 bucks I was Irate. All I was trying to do was send my last college term paper and Spyware Protection 2010 wouldn’t let me open anything on my lap top saying it was all infected! The panic I went into was unbelievable and on top of that I’m pregnant and got so stressed out. I called the “customer service number” ( 1 800 510 5209) and complained saying I wanted a refund he gave me the run around saying the product will work after 10 days! I then gave him a piece of my mind! O these hormones! People in this world have enough problems with money with out having to be scammed! I told him to find a real job, that honest people in this world trying to do the best for their family and self do not need to be out the 60-100 bucks they scam you out of! I also said if he his going to continue this scam he might want to be more intelligent about it and not be the only person running the phone line. I called 4 times and got the same person, true sign of a scamming company. And I assured him I’d be on here to WARN PEOPLE NoT TO FALL INTO THE TRAP OF SPYWARE PROTECTION 2010. this one is for you “TOM” the Indian man!!
Yours Truly,
A VERY IRATE MOTHER TO BE!!

Well, Spyware Protection has taken over my computer. I can’t run any .exe files, can’t even get the task manager to display for more than a second.
I searched the programs to remove and not remotely similar to Spyware is listed.
How do I get rid of this monster?
I had to do a boot recovery about 2 weeks ago because XP SP3 trashed my computer and wouldn’t finish a reboot. I neglected to make sure my Norton was back running and now can’t get it reactivated.
Is there any way to get rid of it without a complete recovery to my old settings?
Thanks,

You should be able to access the Task Manager and your security tools once you boot your computer into safe mode.

Well, I really doubt the scammers will give you your money back. There is usually no real company behind such frauds. Have you tried contacting your bank? They may be able to cancel the payment.

I was able to fix it by booting in Safe Mode. Go to \Documents & Settings\ ****\Application Data and delete the file Defender.exe
Also, open regedit and go to HKCURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete the line referenceing …\Defender.exe.
Reboot and it should be ok

I got this virus April 3rd at 2:02 pm. I could not find it listed under my “programs”, so I couldn’t “remove it.” I found the defender.exe file in my c:\documents & settings\my name\application data directory. It would not let me delete it from there either. It just kept popping back. So, I renamed it: “pileofcrap” and rebooted. Since I had renamed it, it didn’t run the defender.exe upon boot up. I was then able to delete it and now I’m going to run malware software to make sure it doesn’t have any other “pieces” of it lurking in my hard drive. At least I was able to open Outlook and other programs after that. What makes me mad is, my McAfee didn’t detect a thing wrong. I even had it scan the defender.exe file and it said it was safe! This whole process took my Sunday afternoon and like the pregnant lady above, my blood pressure was off the charts!

Got this stupid “virus” on my daughter’s software…wouldn’t let me open safe mode, wouldn’t let me open the regedit, or the task manager….I had a five second window on startup to access the task manager, so I just had to be quicker than the program…found the defender.exe process and stopped it before it started….
…however, next time I’ll try Rita’s trick of renaming it. Very clever idea.

Here I was browsing the internet for some information about Private Military Contracting. Next thing I know, all my tabs were down and this bs pops up. After a few minutes, I become quite frustrated. I knew that there is no legitimate program that holds your web browsers hostage, unless you pay for this program. I couldn’t even find any source files conventionally, those crafty bastards. So, I am downloading your nice little program, and I hope it will be the simple solution. You can mess with my internet, or my computer. But keep me away from a 150K pay-year. I’m Pissed.
