How to remove Privacy Center

Privacy Center description
Privacy Center is installed along with fake video codecs. The malware cooperates with Zlob trojan (click here to remove Zlob).

Privacy Center is very similar to widely spread malware named Privacy Components (learn how to delete PrivacyComponents). PrivacyCenter mimics computer scan. Since the scan is only an imitation, the results of such a system check shouldn’t be trusted. Privacy Center fabricates security alerts; it also continuously demands purchasing the program. The tool isn’t worth your money or your time, because PrivacyCenter is a computer parasite. It never functions as anti-spyware or anti-virus.
Remove Privacy Center without a doubt. It’s only good at displaying annoying pop-ups and using system resources to crash a system occasionally.
Privacy Center is a Rogue Antispyware software
How to manually remove Privacy Center
To remove Privacy Center spyware you must block Privacy Center sites, stop and remove processes, unregister DLL files, search and delete all other Privacy Center files and registry utility. Follow the Privacy Center detection and removal instructions below.
The most typical software removal method is to remove Privacy Center by using "Add or Remove Programs" service. However there may be hidden Privacy Center files, running processes and registries in your computer, so Privacy Center may recreate all other files after reboot.

Do not pay for ‘activating’ Privacy Center! It’s a scam, PrivacyCenter won’t work and your money will be lost. Use Privacy Center manual removal; it’s above the comments section.

Privacy Center can’t be uninstalled like a regular program because it is not a regular program. It is a computer parasite. Please, follow the manual removal guide to deal with this malware. You can also delete PrivacyCenter by running anti-spyware scan.

Your not answering the questions. How do you bypass this black screen with just the Privacy center -pay me thing and get to your desktop so you can use a anti spyware to delete it.???????????????????? thats what everybody whats to know . Once we get there we can get rid of it ……without paying a 59.00 fee. I’ve been on every forum and no one answers that question…Why?

Here is something I’m working on. If you click on the microsoft website url listed on the Privacy Center Screen( it should be in blue letters towards the bottom left corner of the Privacy Center Screen, I’m using Vista, it will allow you to log to the internet, as if accessing the microsoft help desk. You can check e-mail, facebook etc. You then go to files and click on open, followed by browse. Browsing gets you unto your files on your desktop and “around” that black screen. You can try opening the dvd drive if you have an anti-spyware disk, or you can download something off the net. So far this is where I’ve gotten to with trying to remove it. I can still look at my files and open them etc. The privacy center is like a wall, but like any wall, there are ways around it. So the key is through their own screen

Listen, to get rid of the startup window, press ctrl alt delete, then go to tab “applications” to see the programs that are running, then click on privacy center and click on end process, then it will ask u to end the process a couple of seconds later, after its not running u go to task manager again… then go to file, new task (run), type: explorer, then press ok. this will return u to the desktop, enjoy!

yeah, but what happens when it blocks you out of Task Manager. I can’t even get into task manager, not even in Safe mode. What do I do know or am I just Screwed?
April 24th, 2009 at 5:28 am
To boot in the Safe mode, restart your computer and as soon as it starts to boot up start pressing the F8 key. This will bypass all of your usual start files and takes you to a black screen where the option Safe Mode appears. Select Safe Mode to start your computer and you should then get to your desktop.

I got Privacy Center on a Win Vista machine a couple of days ago. Had the classic symptoms of just one window (Privacy Center) and a black background. I was able to CTRL/ALT/DEL into Task Manager where I selected the Processes tab. I saw pc.exe (Privacy Center Executable) and deleted it and the Privacy Center window went away, leaving me with a black screen. I went back to Task Manager and ran a New Task of CMD and got the DOS Command Prompt showing c:\Windows/system32. Fortunately, I recalled my old DOS commands and I changed directory (CD) to c:\Windows, looked for win.exe and executed the command in the DOS prompt. Windows came up in full glory, I removed Privacy Center via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, did a System Restore to a few days past, ran Windows Update for the latest patches, then did a FULL scan with Windows Defender. I restarted the machine and everything came up peachy.

Hi,
I really hope you can help me out. I have the same exact virus as you, but I am unfamiliar with DOS prompts. I am capable with a computer, so if you explain how to do it I will have no problem following. I know this is a lot to ask, but could you give me a step-by-step on how you changed directory to c:\windows so I can get to add/remove programs and delete this virus? It would really help me out because I have some important files on there. Thank you so much.

Privacy Center won’t appear on the “Add/Remove programs” list because PrivacyCenter is not a regular program. You can either delete it manually or you can run antispyware scan. Well, you can also format hard drive and reinstall Windows but you lose your files in this case. I recommend using step-by-step removal guide provided above the comments section.
April 27th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
i just got this virus it would start before anything else and even if i ended task on the privacy center i would only be left with a black screen. i restarted and did a system restore to yesterday and as far as i can tell its gone and everything is running ok strangely the privacy center folder is still in my start menu though.
April 30th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
I tried the manual uninstall but the processes to end were not listed. The registry entry’s to be deleted were not in the registry to be deleted. also none of the files to be deleted were found on the computer. Are there other registry entry’s and files used for privacy center ?
May 6th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
boot to safe mode
press CTRL -ALT-DEL (the screen may be modifyed by the virus to be opbscured to one side. Expand it in this case.. End the only task listed…
to fix the black screen from here..
click on new task and type “explorer”
this should continue windows into a normal “safe mode” desktop
This is what i had to do
good luck
May 7th, 2009 at 7:17 am
I found a simple way to delete it.
After I would log on, privacy center would come up and would not allow me to do anything either. so i did the following….
1 start Task Manager while privacy center was running,(Ctrl + Alt + Delete)
2 Click on processes tab ( its the second tab next to application tab)
3 locate file pc.exe, click on it, then click on (End Process) tab bottom
4 Click on (Applications)tab
5 click on (New Task)tab then click (Browse)button
6 then click on (c:)then (Program files)
7 Find Privacy Centre then click on that.
8 Then click on the uninstall file.
Thanks it.
Then reboot and it should work. It did for me.
Good luck

Thanks Davida for your step by step process of how to remove the PCentre malware. It worked straight away. I did however find the shortcut to Pcentre on my desktop when I restarted my computer, after I followed your process. I have a registry scanner on my computer which I used and after restarting my computer again after scanning it, it disappeared. I hope that was the last of it……:D
One process I found that was not it your process, as I am not that greatest on the computer, was to press open on the unistall file after step 8.

The same thing has happened to me. As soon as i switch on the computer, privacy center is up, and my ctrl-alt-delete is ‘disabled’. I can’t get onto task manager, or go onto ’safe mode’, and how am i meant to do an anti-scan if i can’t even get out of the privacy center screen. The anti scan wouldn’t work anyway, if the virus protector could stop the virus in the scan, then it wouldn’t have let it in in the first place. Please help.

Pam- It looks like the privacy center heads of state are monitoring this site and getting ideas to make the malware more robust. Seems only lately that ctrl-alt-del function is being disabled after privacy center takes hold. I’m sure this problem has occurred more often than what we see on this site but I’m wondering why I haven’t yet seen it reported in the news media.

Pam, boot your PC in a safe mode, this way Privacy Center has much less access to the system and you should be able to remove the infection either manually or by running antispyware scan.
May 17th, 2009 at 7:31 am
Thanks Davida, your steps really worked. I opened my laptop and found this running, within less than 5 minutes my problem was solved. I went to google(thru another laptop) and found your post and it worked.

My PC accidentally got infected by Privacy center. That did not allow me to boot to desktop. Soon I login the, privacy centers app would pop up and show all the cookies as either dangerous or porn . But after sometime, it would throw “No sufficient disk space to run the task” and the process would stall . I dint allow me to get to desktop.
I tried to boot in safe mode, but the password dint work. I tried “administrator” as well to log in , but failed.
So , here is what worked for me. I changed the boot sequence to boot from CD. Put in ubuntu boot cd and ran it without installing it. Once ubuntu boots, mount the drive that has windows ( Places-> IBM reload ( c:) ) and went to Program files and deleted the folder PCenter.
Now i shutdown from ubuntu and try normall winows boot. It allowed me to get to desktop.
Then , i cleaned up the registry and i am all set.
Hope this helps

I have just been working on an XP PC which could not be accessed in normal or safe mode because of Privacy Center, so I could not use the removal processes detailed above.
Fortunately I have a maintenance disk that I can boot from which gives access to the file system. I used this and went to C:\Program Files\ and there was a subdirectory called PCenter containing files from the list in the manual deletion instructions above. I completely deleted this directory, and now the PC boots OK.
Now I can make sure that all traces of Privacy Center are deleted by using normal and-virus and anti-spyware tools.

You can always try manual removal if you do not want to pay.
And btw I don’t think this spyware threat is a warranty issue.

Many of the above help UNLESS you cannot get into Windows because of this thing
I have managed to get rid of Privacy Center, which was preventing ANY access to Windows.I stopped it with Task Manager, then used New Task to do a Restore. I typed in c:\windows\system32\Restore\rstrui.exe, which allowed the restore. Add/remove did not fully remove the files (or shortcut) leaving 3 meg in a folder called PC in Programs. I deleted those, looked through the register and deleted a couple of references to PC.exe. Many of the files suggested have now changed in this latest version. Don’t forget to turn off Restore temporarily to clear any copies that have been backed up

click on the website listed on the bottom left of the pcenter to get onto the internet.
My firefox opened up but i could not access google or anything so i went to

-’options’
-’advanced’
- then click settings on how firefox access the internet
- mine had a proxy setting which it shouldnt so click ‘no proxy’
hopefully you should now be able to access google.
