Pest Detector 4.1 description
Pest Detector 4.1 a.k.a. PestDetector is one of several malicious programs distributed by the Fake Microsoft Security Essentials Alert trojan. The other rogue tools delivered by this fraud are Red Cross Antivirus, Peak Protection 2010, Major Defense Kit and AntiSpy Safeguard.
If Microsoft Security Essentials Alert suggests installing Pest Detector 4.1, deny the offer! The program is malicious and it only brings trouble. Furthermore it brings even more pop-ups than the trojan itself.
Pest Detector 4.1 reports various regular applications (Internet Explorer, Adobe Reader) as malicious and it prevents a victim from running them. The malware demands purchasing full version of the program for deleting the “viruses” and protect a computer. Pest Detector 4.1 is definitely not worth a penny. The paid version doesn’t even exist; it’s just a bait to get money.

Follow the manual removal guide step by step. The tutorial is right above the comments section. The other way to delete Pest Detector is running anti-spyware scan.

I have found all this advice to not work for the following reasons:
- The numerous spyware programs suggested by many sites do not work as Pest Detector does not let any of them run. It closes them before they can be fixed. Even retrying with the error still on screen does not work.
- Manual termination of the processes is not possible as you cannot open taskmanager because Pest Detector restricts it.
Any ideas?

Booting computer in a safe mode usually help to access both regular programs and the Task Manager.

I can get to regedit , but none of those files you list above can be found. Pest Detector 4.1 starts up immedeatly when the computer is started, and can not be stopped. once it has finished I get a black screen with no icons or a start bar. I am running windows 7 in a emachines laptop. Safe mode and normal start up get the same results.

This whole scheme is nothing but extortion. First you damage the computer then you offer to fix the damage, and then they do more damage. Since they take credit cards, they can be traced. I understand that the origin of this scam is offshore, but we could still shut down their source of funding in this country by going after their credit card accounts.
Where is the FBI when you need them?

Hello Jeffrey,
Oh, if things were as simple as that. By the way, you can’t tell that scammers don’t get what they deserve. Some part of the crowd get to jail etc etc. But tracing those people down is not as easy as you say, yet it’s not impossible.
