Personal Security description
Personal Security comes from the same family of rogue anti-spyware tools as the infamous Cyber Security. Don‘t trust the application with protecting your computer; PersonalSecurity is not only fraudulent but it is also malicious.
Personal Security reports regular programs as infections and requires buying full version for deleting the „threats“. It uses aggressive tactics to indimidate victims and gain a purchase. PersonalSecurity hijacks web browser and loads the following notification:
This website has been reported as unsafe
We strongly recommend to discontinue the use of this website.
Register your computer’s security software
This website has been reported to Microsoft for containing threats that might steal personal or financial information from your computer.
Personal Security also displays other fabricated alerts in order to make an image of badly infected PC. Trust neither of those and remove PersonalSecurity with no doubt.
Here are some examples of Personal Security pop-ups:
Personal Security Alert!
Protect your PC from violent virus attack!
Personal Security – vulnerable file(s) found!
Personal Security has identified that some documents nd files can be vulnerable to viruses.
You may lose your personal data and infect other network computers.

How to manually remove Personal Security
To remove Personal Security spyware you must block Personal Security sites, stop and remove processes, unregister DLL files, search and delete all other Personal Security files and registry utility. Follow the Personal Security detection and removal instructions below.
The most typical software removal method is to remove Personal Security by using "Add or Remove Programs" service. However there may be hidden Personal Security files, running processes and registries in your computer, so Personal Security may recreate all other files after reboot.

Hi Leah,
Okay so what i did to bypass it [by the time i searched these sites the idiot Personal Security internet browser hacker wouldnt let me do anything. It went as far as to closing all my browser windows or blocking a specific site as soon as i kept returning to it.]
What i had to resort to doing was to race against it. I don’t know about you, but when my computer was affected, for about a minute my computer was fine, and then personal security automatically started.
I restarted my computer and quickly right clicked the task bar to find the task manager [Personal Security wouldnt let me go Control+alt+delete anymore]
Right after that, i went to Processes and searched psecurity and terminated it. After that, i opened up one of the anti malware programs i downloaded [i think i downloaded every single one the internet recommended] and scanned.
I used.. Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware. The quick scan takes around an hour, but since you terminated Personal Security upon turning on your computer, you can still do other things on your computer while you wait.
Hope this was useful !

The removal tool is an anti-spyware so it can’t harm your computer.

Nah, it’s really just a program that scans your comp for all bad stuff, its not a specific tool for Personal Security, it scans everything.
besides, all the tutorials online suggest a program of this sort =P
December 20th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Many thanks SpywareVoid badasses! Some of my notes. Not all the files listed, were on my computer but many were. My guess is that it depends on whether or not you (or in most cases one of your family members) actually downloaded and installed the software. None the less…this solution worked awesome. Thanks

It’s Personal Security that blocks the removal program, but you should be able to launch it in a safe mode.
December 26th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
The program doesn’t let you download any software. We sent a message to the company that created Personal Security on the “customer service” link that we would track them down and sue them for attacking our kids computer. They emailed this solution and it worked in less than one minute. We still downloaded and ran an antispyware program afterwards to make sure nothing remained. This was their response which worked:
“Dear customer,
Thank you for contacting Customer Support Center.
Please follow my instructions to uninstall the program:
Paste the following string to Windows Explorer address bar and execute it (Press Enter key):
C:\Program Files\Common Files\PSecurityUninstall\Uninstall
or
1. Open My computer, choose Disk C;
2. Find Program Files=>Common Files=>PSecurityUninstall=>Uninstall
3. Run the file Uninstall.lnk
After that our product will be removed.Sometimes it takes more than one try to remove the product due to temporary technical difficulties, so please try to do it several times.
If you have any questions concerning our software, please contact our Customer Support Service.
With best wishes,
Customer Support Team”

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For your simple solution. I was losing my mind – and was on my computer all afternoon trying to get rid of PERSONAL SECURITY. Those people ought to be tracked down and SUED for that HORRIBLE program.
I couldn’t even FIND the customer service for them. So THANKS again for tracking ‘em down and posting the solution.

The solution that was outlined in your “Dear Customer” letter appears to have worked for me as well. I was a little skeptical at first; it sounded way too easy to be true, but I was at my wits end and decided to give it a try. And, as noted earlier, it appears to have worked for me.
Thx, T-Squared

Can not one sue such companies who forcefully get in to one’s pc and do such activities to force sell their products?? If I would have been in the USA, I would have sued this company and nailed it down.
What kind of cyber laws you have in the USA that you can not drag them to court.
I will check if I can f**k them in India.

Luciana Reply:

Accessing the Add/Remove Programs wouldn’t help you because Personal Security is not a regular program. Run an anti-spyware to delete this thing or use the manual removal guide.
January 3rd, 2010 at 11:24 pm
I was able to complete all the manual uninstall steps you outlined with ease except I was unable to delete the file c:\WINDOWS\system32\win32extension.dll. It said it was in use. Wondering if all the other steps were completed and I run the removal tool, if I will be ok? Or if there is a way to delete this file? Thanks.

1) I was working on windows Vista and some pf it was called PecSecurity

Personal Security has taken over completley. As soon as I start my computer, it keeps me from opening anything, including any applications in my control panel etc.. Also, trying to run my computer in “safe mode” as “Warwick” suggested in his/her comments however after starting my pc and hitting F10 I’m not finding a safe mode in any of these screens….suggestions???

unable to connect to Internet using IE or Mozilla. Used USB Thumb drive to install removal tool.
Have removed Personal Security, however I am unable to connect to to any website using Internet Explorer. Checked ethernet hardware and it is fine.
I can connect locally in my network.
I tried Mozilla Firefox and that would not connect either
Any Ideas?

Hello.
Why is it that when I will be deleting the Personal Security, there was a browser apper saying that acces is denied.?
Luciana Reply:
January 21st, 2010 at 4:57 am
This happened because the malware was running at the moment you’ve tried to remove it. Just like you’d be trying to delete a document or picture which is opened at the moment. I bet the file you’ve tried to delete was an exe file. If you follow the manual removal step by step, there shouldn’t be any problems. Kill the malicious processes first and then delete everything else.

Hi
I followed the instruction to use the link:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\PSecurityUninstall\Uninstall
However, it didn’t work. Then I tried the 3 step instructions of:
1. Open My computer, choose Disk C;
2. Find Program Files=>Common Files=>PSecurityUninstall=>Uninstall
3. Run the file Uninstall.lnk.
When following the folders I saw that the one folder had a different name on my pc than stated in the steps: “PSecurityUninstall” was called “PersonalSecUninstall”.
When I followed it through this folder, it worked.
Thank you very much for all the help and comments on this website. I’m so relieved!
