OpenCloud AV description
OpenCloud AV is a copy of OpenCloud Antivirus and neither of these two is real virus remover. OpenCloud AV is a fraudulent program just like its predecessor. The tool offers computer protection while it’s actually a computer infection itself.
OpenCloud AV is distributed on deceptive websites but the more common way of infection is via Trojans. Once installed, the scam delivers tons of system warnings and scan reports. If a victim clicks on the pop-ups the fraud demands paying for deleting the threats and problems. Needless to say, OpenCloud AV notifications are falsified. They are only meant to push people into purchasing the fake program.
Do not trust Open Cloud AV and remove it as soon as possible.

Hi guys. I have an open source project called OpenCloudAV hosted on opencloudav.com. OpenCloudAV is a multi-engine based malware analysis service from the network cloud. The GPL code is free hosted on SourceForge (sourceforge.net/projects/opencloudav/) and only runs on Linux machines. *There isn’t any relationship at all between OpenCloudAV.com and the virus/scam that you described*. Please help me to clarify the difference as we have received some emails with complaints by victims of this virus. Thank you.

If the project you are running is real and genuine, I am really sorry the scammers have caused you some inconveniences.
Your website does not seem to be related to the OpenCloud AV fraud, however, it does not look like a legitimate thing. There are almost no information about the project or what company is behind it. What kind of project can afford tons of spelling mistakes and similar things on a supposedly official product page? Your comment looks more like a try to get attention to another fraud.

Dear Luciana,
The project is real and genuine, but there is no company behind, and is in *alpha state* right now.
Finally, english is not my mother tongue, so if you found spelling mistakes, please send me a private email and I’ll try to fix it.

If I have not “bought” the OpenCloud AV download, but I get the pop up “warnings” about infections, is it still a threat on my computer? If so, how serious of a threat?

OpenCloud AV is not able to delete things nor can it spy on you. Yet, it can block certain applications, esspecially security-related. It can also make your computer run much slower. You should also keep in mind that OpenCloud AV is usually installed by trojans. So, even though OpenCloud AV is rather annoying than malicious, the trojans that put it on your PC can download more malware. Those can also redirect web browser and web searches.
In conclusion, I strongly recommend deleting OpenCloud AV and then running some real malware remover to check if there is something more on the system.

OpenCloud is primarily downloaded by a rootkit that is already on your system. We’ve been cleaning this threat for weeks. Make sure you use proper rootkit scanning tools to eliminate or at least identify the source cause otherwise you’ll be chasing your tail for days trying to clean up the symptoms and not eliminating the root cause of the infection. Good Luck.
