hey umm if u click ctrl alt del…task manager will come up…go to processes and find pav.e or something and one that might say personal antivirus..somethinglie that… click on them then click end process…then go to that c:/ folder and find the personal antivirus folder and u should be able to delete it…

Some tips that helped me remove this virus from my PC:

You have it remove it from Task Manager first (end process tree). Then go to the C:\ program files and look for it, usually pav.exe and delete it there. When the PAV window pops up, you can usually see the date and the time that started to infect your pc, you can sort for files with that specific information to make the search process easier.

Also, make sure you delete any temporary files by pressing the windows button (the key after “Ctrl” key on your keyboard and then press R, then type temp or %temp%, all of the temporary files will pop up and you can delete them to avoid getting this virus back on your PC.

It also helps to delete any temporary internet files or cookies that may’ve been copied onto your PC after each use. Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options and then delete.

Have you tried running the anti-spyware in a safe mode? Personal Antivirus is able to block security tools in a normal mode; that might be the reason why you can’t remove the infection. I also recommend removing Personal Anti virus manually. Use the instructions posted above the comments section.

i finally got rid of it all u have to do is restore your computer to an earlier date like 1 day before you got personal av. to do this go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore and then click restore to earlier date and it will take you through it.

Apparently you got more malware than just Personal Antivirus. Run anti-spyware scan to deal with all the infections.

The free version won’t remove the detected items. But you can use it to locate the malicious files and then you can delete them manually.

Sorry to bother you again… (this one will be short and to the point), Is Spyware Doctor COMPLETELY free? I know the scanning is free, but is removing the actual malware free as well? Or do you have to pay for it when you get to that point?

After Sonny’s steps, you still need to checkout under Run by typing Regedit and then go through each of the folders under Personal Antivirus register entries to look for anything that say Personal AV etc and remove them.

Restart your computer and keep clicking F8 key while it’s still booting. You’ll see an option to boot a machine into safe mode. Once you’re in a safe mode, run the security tools you got. This way you will know which files are malicious and then you can delete them manually.

hey yeah. i accidentally downloaded this as well. and my dad is furious about the fact that we have something that says we have trojans when we really don’t. he doesn’t know that it’s the PAV. and i don’t want to have to download anything else. so how do i get it off for sure that’s free and without downloading anything. i’m not good with stuff like this so i have no clue what up above is talking about. OH NO… I have 2 ANTIVIRUS VIRUSES? Personal Antivirus and AntiSpywarePro… I’m surprise I can even access this website…

I already tried removing PAV manually; “Run” “regedit” I looked EXACTLY where it said to, SEVERAL times. Nothing was there… NOTHING. Then I figured it might be in a hidden file and folder somewhere in there but I didn’t see an option for that.

Right now I can access the Yahoo website, and this site as long as I press on the link to get there. My search engines: NONE OF THEM WORK…

Random pop ups from ANY sites are starting to pop up… ranging from 2 – 4 at a time… most of them are about ANTISPYWARE OR ANTIMALWARE. Now, I am also getting crap from MySpace, Facebook, all of the above… without even EVER visiting those sites.

In fact, in less there is a link pasted for me to go to, I can’t get there most of the time. I had to go and get this link from Yahoo! Answers… and I CAN access that.

Okay I have installed and uninstall Spyware Doctor and Registry Mechanic twice… because it wouldn’t run… I tried to run the “Smart Update” and it wouldn’t let me… it said there was an error getting to the destination.

When you run the “Smart Update” do you then have to buy Spyware Doctor?
I can’t, I am only 17, and I don’t have a job, and yeah, my parents don’t even know about it, I just WANT to get it OFF before they know…

I need something absolutely free, that even after scanning, it should still be free, and when I update it to remove the problem it should still be free.

If I can only get a trial version or something that’s fine… I will remove it as soon as I remove the problem.

PLEASE HELP ME!

The free scan mentioned in the removal guide located some things other virus scans didn’t; however, I have to pay if I want the program to delete them!
Yes, I know I HAVE a problem; I want the problems DELETED.

Since none of Personal Antivirus files are on board your computer I assume you got some kind of trojan or browser hijacker which “advertises” PersonalAntivirus. I recommend running anti-spyware scan to delete the rest of the infections from your computer.

I am tearing my hair out; this malicious program has completely screwed over my dad’s computer.
I had thought I had deleted it with MalwareBytes, and it DID let me surf the Internet for a bit; then Internet Explorer went right back to displaying the stupid error messages (’THIS PAGE IS NOT SAFE, SO BUY OUR FAKE PRODUCT’).
There are no more popups about ‘Personal Antivirus’ finding ‘malicious programs’, so I assume it’s gone; however, I still can’t surf the web!
I have followed the above instructions and found absolutely NONE of those files.

Unfortunately, my dad has Vista, so maybe the files would be in different locations or have different names.
Can you please help?!

I strongly recommend running anti-spyware scan. Obviously, you got more than one malware and removing all of them manually is kinda difficult. Here's AntiSpywarePro manual removal if you choose to remove the infection manually.

WE GOT A HUGE PROBLEM!

Sonny’s idea worked… it got rid of the pop ups but it REALLY DIDN’T GET RID PERSONAL ANTIVIRUS (PAV)!

Many websites are still blocked – a burgandy message appears, the website’s web address is ABOUTBLANK (Not in caps.) Its the same thing that I had before I attempted to remove it.

At the top of an internet explorer page, a yellow bar still pops up and says:

“This page is in infected with malicious advertising code. Such code can seriously affect your computer. Click here to protect your computer with Personal Antivirus.”

That’s how I know it’s not gone.

Sonny’s idea just got rid of the pop ups – but that’s it. My search engines aren’t working. I can type something in, press search, then just get a blank white page – and I already tried refresh. Every now and then, my computer freezes and crashes. Maybe twice or three times in a row. Many websites I can access for maybe 30 seconds until it completely loads up and then it goes to ABOUTBLANK and it presents to me the “BURGANDY MESSAGE.”

And now without any REAL Antivirus/Antimalware Programs, my computer KNOWS it is infected. On July 20th – yesterday – I believe internet explorer sent me three messages saying my computer was infected with Malware, and that they wanted to scan it with AntiSpywarePro – But I pressed cancel because I didn’t know if it was safe.

Thanks for your help Sonny/Daniel. But it’s not gone. I’m not even sure it’s COMPLETELY gone from your computer. I would definately get a scanner and check it out, cause I really doubt that it’s gone.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?!!!!!!! I JUST GOT THIS COMPUTER A MONTH AGO (IN JUNE) I HAVE TO GET RID OF THIS AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO…

If these comments are too hard then the only and the easiest way is to scan your computer with Spyware Doctor anti-spyware and delete Personal Antivirus by paying less than $30 for daily updates and annual licence.

Thank you Sonny this worked great! I couldn’t get it into the recycle bin after only cut/pasting into 1 folder so i buried it into several new folders restarted my pc and wala! Just cut/paste the folder all ur new folders are in into the recycle bin and this stupid thing is gone!

We tried the manual removal Sonny suggested. We moved the PersonalAnti virus file into a new folder and then restarted the computer. After restarting the computer we deleted the new folder and then emptied the recycle bin. Before we restarted the computer the new folder WOULD NOT delete into the recycle bin. It worked!

Sonny, I right clicked on the PersonalAV folder in C:\Program Files, press cut, put it in another folder and TRIED to put it in the Recycle Bin. The ONLY thing it did was now make the folder a hidden folder! HELP ME!

Sonny’s suggestion to cut Personal Antivirus off of C: Program Files\Files…. worked for me as well. Althought cut and pasting it and hiding it in separate folders is key. Need also restart computer and then dump it into the recycle bin would work, without restarting PC it’s not intuitive that it had worked.
